Reviewing Aqua Follies by Liv Rancourt.

Aqua Follies by Liv Rancourt 3*
BLURB: The 1950s. Postwar exuberance. Conformity. Rock and roll.
Homophobia.
Russell tells himself he’ll marry Susie because it’s the right thing to do. His summer job coaching her water ballet team will give him plenty of opportunity to give her a ring. But on the team’s trip to the annual Aqua Follies, the joyful glide of a trumpet player’s solo hits Russell like a torpedo, blowing apart his carefully constructed plans.
From the orchestra pit, Skip watches Poseidon’s younger brother stalk along the pool deck. It never hurts to smile at a man, because good things might happen, but the timing has to be right. Once the last note has been played, Skip gives it a shot.
The tenuous connection forged by a simple smile leads to events that dismantle both their lives. Has the damage been done, or can they pick up the pieces together?

My Review: I received a free copy from the author. I will start by saying that I told the author that reading any M/M set in the 50/60's is not really my cup of tea but I would read it as the blurb was interesting. I then gave this a three star rating because the writing was excellent. The characters were good, the background of the synchronised musical came across as accurate to the times it was set in, and the romance had just the right touch of tension to be expected from a time when Homosexual behaviour was illegal. However I just couldn't find myself immersed in the story and ended up reading/listening to 11 other books whilst perusing this one. That said I do recommend you to give it a try if you are into books set in near history, meanwhile I'll go back to reading more of Liv's vampires.
